From the neglected back alley, the humble balcony to the high rise towerblock, see how the even the tiniest corner of your home, office or garden can be transformed into an urban oasis and find out how you can do your bit to combat climate change and protect your local habitats from the effect of urban sprawl. With a variety of events and workshops going on throughout the exhibition (for kids and grown ups alike!) there’s plenty of opportunity to roll up your sleeves, embrace the soil and get back to nature!     Hampton Court Palace Flower Show Charity Gala Preview - Hampton Court Palace

    The Charity Gala Preview is in aid of the Royal Horticultural Society, Thrive and RNIB.


    For one week only in July, the majestic Hampton Court Palace provides the stunning backdrop to the world’s largest annual flower show – and, for one night only, the Charity Gala Preview gives you the chance to enjoy the show in unhurried comfort.


    The Charity Gala Preview is a Midsummer’s Eve of champagne, entertainment, and the very best in horticulture. So gather friends, family or clients, or plan a romantic treat for two, and indulge in an evening of dramatic gardens, artistic floral displays, live music and spectacular fireworks.   • Guided Walk and High tea - Waterperry Gardens

    Thu 10th July 2008
    Join our Waterperry expert for a leisurely stroll, highlighting areas of seasonal interest in our stunning ornamental gardens or around the Waterperry estate. Ticket price includes a high tea in the Pear Tree Teashop. Places are limited and tickets must be booked and paid for in advance by calling 01844 339254. Tickets cost £15 each. Please meet at 2pm at the Garden entrance.

    Writtle College Garden Open Day - National Garden Scheme Event - Writtle College, Chelmsford Essex

    Sun 13th July 2008
    Flowers in bloom and a wide selection of flowering plants will be on show at the Writtle College Garden Open Day on Sunday 13th July 2008, 10am - 4pm. The opening is part of the National Gardens Scheme, a charitable trust which provides financial support to a wide range of charitable institutions. A mapped walk will be available and visitors will have the chance to speak with Writtle College Horticultural staff and members of the Neighbourhood Gardeners Scheme, who will be on hand to answer gardening queries. The Writz restaurant on campus will be open for traditional Sunday lunches, with a full roast meal and other light snacks on the menu. The Essex Suite conference facilities will also be open for bookings and viewings, located adjacent to the Writz restaurant. Alternative refreshments will be available from the Writtle Tea Rooms and plants will be on sale in the Writtle College Garden Centre. 10am – 4pm. Entry - £3.50, £2.50 for concessions, with Children entering free. Proceeds from admission will go towards the National Garden Scheme.

    Art in Action - Waterperry Gardens

    250 artists take over the Waterperry estate at the largest arts festival of its kind in Europe. Art in Action gives visitors the chance to watch artists demonstrate their skills, and even have a go themselves!   • Peter Pan in the Garden! - Waterperry Gardens

    Thu 7th August 2008
    Heartbreak Productions bring their own unique touch to this enduring family classic, telling stories of magical lands, children who can fly, pirates and crocodiles! Join Peter, Wendy and the Lost Boys in our equally magical ornamental gardens - the perfect backdrop for Neverland! Gates open 1 hour before the performance for picnics. No seating is provided so please bring your own picnic chairs or blankets. All tickets are NON-refundable. The performance will go ahead regardless of the weather unless extreme conditions prevail. Tickets cost £12 for adults and £7.50 for children aged 18 and under.
  • Chilli Fiesta - West Dean Gardens

    One hundred stall holders and hundreds of chillies and sweet peppers on display.  There will be food tasting, chilli growing and cooking demonstrations, salsa dancing and music.  A great day out.

    More than 150 varieties of tomatoes grown in the walled kitchen garden and Victorian glasshouses will be on show.  There’ll be cookery demonstrations, growing tips and tasting, and a delicious range of tomato related produce.

    Flormart Exhibition - Padua, Italy

     The Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the UK, Fiera Milano and Padova Fiere are pleased to invite you to the 57th edition of FLORMART - MIFLOR, the most complete international Trade Fair of Mediterranean floriculture dedicated to gardening, nursery gardening, machinery, technology and products for the entire product line, as well as florist articles, and equipment for public and private parks and gardens in the MAVER exhibit area (www.flormart.it). 

    The event takes place in Italy, the country with the largest production of garden nursery products in Europe and with a great variety of Mediterranean plants, and attracts every year more than 1,200 exhibitors and 26,000 trade visitors from all over the world.

    Visitors such as: plant growers; gardeners; parks and gardens maintenance companies; landscape gardeners; public and private parks and gardens management associations; garden centers; historical gardens; parks and gardens contractors; large-scale distribution networks; parkland constructors; forest conservation; town planning organizations; amusement parks and playgrounds; golf courses; mass distribution; botanical gardens.

    Michaelmas Daisy Weekend - Waterperry Gardens

    Visit our ornamental garden and see it in all its late summer glory! Michaelmas Daisies add their own blowsy final flourish to our famous herbaceous border, and there’ll be plenty of Aster varieties on sale in the plant centre. You can also enjoy our country crafts and food fair in the plant centre (free admission) and the Friends of Waterperry plant sale. (Saturday only) Special menu in the Pear Tree Teashop available but must be booked by calling 01844 338087. On September 21st the garden is also open in aid of the National Garden Scheme, so all entrance fee money will be donated to nursing, caring and gardening charities.
  • Apple Affair - West Dean Gardens

    Visitors can see over 100 varieties of apple grown in the Victorian walled kitchen garden. There will be stallholders offering an array of apple based foods and drinks to taste and buy and activities for the whole family.

    Apple Weekend - Waterperry Gardens

    Celebrate the new season with Waterperry’s Apple Weekend. See and taste up to 50 different apple varieties and get your mystery apple crops identified by our experts. There’ll also be tours of the orchards, a country crafts and food fair in the plant centre, special apple-themed meals in the Pear Tree Teashop and information and advice about growing fruit in your garden. Event runs from 10am to 4.30pm. Entrance fee applies for garden visits.
